The Siling Labuyo is a unique and little-known chili pepper native to the Philippines. Very similar to the thai chili, it was once thought to be the spiciest pepper in the world. Many folk legends persist about the Siling Labuyo– Filipino locals claim it can be used to treat sore throats, stomach problems, arthritis, and rheumatism. Whether you believe the myths or not, the Siling Labuyo chili adds adds a deliciously spicy flavor to our nutrient-packed nuts.
All of our pili nuts are wild harvested by hand from the Filipino rainforest, placing minimal strain on natural resources and providing local communities with an incentive to preserve the health of their wild spaces. After harvest, the nuts are then sprouted and activated through a soak in salt water and dehydration. The activation process breaks down the phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors contained within raw pili nuts, allowing the body to access the nutrients inside much more easily. The result is a super-nut with a rich buttery taste, containing a huge range of essential vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, manganese, and Vitamin B1, and the highest fat and lowest carbohydrate content of any nut.
